Place
Los Angeles, California
In service since
1998
Local calls are dialed with
1 plus ten digits
Shares its area with
213 (1947) and 738 (2024)

323 was split from 213 and entered service on June 13, 1998. It took the ring around downtown, which is most of the rest of the City of Los Angeles and its neighbors, and 213 kept the downtown core.

The boundary between the two codes was removed in 2017: the California Public Utilities Commission approved that on July 14, 2016, and dialing 1 plus all ten digits became mandatory on July 8, 2017. A third code, 738, was laid over both and entered service on November 1, 2024.
