What comes back
Caller ID is easy to counterfeit. The line sitting behind the number is not.
Reading the result
Caller ID is trivial to counterfeit. The carrier record behind a number is not, and that is what this checks.
Mobile, landline, or VoIP. Most spam calls come from internet-based VoIP lines, not from real phones.
The network behind the number. A caller claiming to be your bank while riding a bulk VoIP carrier is a red flag.
A risk score built from spam reports and network signals, translated into plain English.
No name, no address, no reverse directory. A call that claims to be a neighbour, a bank or a government office and resolves to a bulk VoIP line was almost certainly spoofed. The line type, carrier and risk level come from 1Lookup’s phone number lookup API.
Why it is calling you at all
Looking up one caller tells you what that number is. It does not stop the next twenty.
A quote form, a listing, a test drive, a free trial, a warranty card. One of them handed your number down a chain of buyers, and once it is on that chain you cannot take it back. The calls keep landing on the line your family uses.
ExpressNumber is Hide My Email for your phone number. You get real US numbers to hand out instead of your own, and every call and text forwards to the phone you already carry. The company only ever sees the burner.
One tap stops the forwarding for good. Use a different number for each company and the spam also tells you who sold you, because only one of them had that number. A free account is 1 number and 50 forwarded minutes, with no card.
Numbers are receive-only: they take calls and texts, they do not make them.
Next time a form asks for a phone number, give it an ExpressNumber. Calls and texts still reach your real phone, and one tap kills the number when the spam starts.
